The
past few summers I noticed and strange man sitting at the corner
of America’s Cup Ave. and Thames St. This older man was
patiently sitting next to the XXXX monument in his kaki shorts
and t-shirt.
So many times I had driven past him but never really
noticed him.
I always assumed he was a local worker relaxing for
lunch. It wasn’t until I stopped at the light right next to
his perch that I got the chance to take a closer look. I
was surprised by what I saw. By his side was a chessboard and
small sign. The sign said,” Play the Master.” Quickly I
pulled out my camera and snapped a picture. I hoped that I might
have a chance to sit and talk with him on another day. I was
curious as to who this so called master was and how he acquired
the title. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to hear his
story. With any luck though, again this summer he will be seated
on his throne waiting for his next opponent to take his
challenge. I’ve been practicing my game all winter in the
hopes that I can give him a run for his money. Because, if I
win, he will then have to call me 'THE MASTER!'
